Resident Spotlight

Finnie
Finnie

This newsletter edition shines on Finnie Jarrett Butts, the daughter of Walter & Janet Jarrett from Samson, Alabama. Finnie was the youngest in a family of 16 children. As an advanced student, at the age of 16, she attended Ohio State University and majored in Psychology, Sociology, and English. After graduating she worked as a Sociology teacher and clerk typist. While working she began discovering her desire to be a nurse and continued her education at Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing. While at O.S.U. she met and married Leon Gerald Butts. She has three children; Walter, Diane, and Beverly; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren! Walter graduated from Ohio State University with a Masters Degree in Business. Diane is a Certified Dietician and resides with her family in Tampa, Florida. Beverly was an Air Force Captain and later became a Police Officer, currently living in Phoenix and works with a computer home-based business.
Finnie commented, “living at Bethesda Gardens is like being at home. Everyone is so very nice and caring and from day one I felt welcomed.” Her current interests include Sew & More, Bingo, and the music of entertainers Michael James and Carole Kepner. Also fishing, dancing, weaving, writing children’s short stories, poems and songs and traveling the world.
Finnie would like to share her inspirational prayer that she recites every morning. “Dear Father God as I wake this morning, I will put on the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, loins girded with the sword of truth, and my feet shod with the Gospel of Peace. Dear Lord, thank you for your goodness and mercy and may your will be done.”

Summer Activities

Greetings! One of the unique things about the Bethesda Community is the participation and dedication of our volunteers. Last month we honored our Resident and non-resident community ambassadors with a catered luncheon and awards ceremony for one year or more of active service.
There are a variety of ways to stay active and create a better quality of life. Bethesda Gardens provides several programs to enhance our daily living. Every month a calendar is available for Residents and staff. For physical exercise, one may choose Bands & Balls, Weights & Walk, Bowl-a-Rama, Shuffleboard, Ball Darts, Massage Therapy or Relaxation Class. Programs that encourage mental stimulation, one may choose Brain Teasers, Wheel-of-Fortune, Crosswords, or Scattergories. Consider card games such as Poker, Canasta, and Bridge. Other popular activities such as Bingo, Bunco, and Rummikub all help keep the mind active and engaged.
Whatever your situation we have several upcoming special events for your enjoyment including a July 4th Celebration, and National Assisted Living Tribute Week in September. An active mind and body will almost assuredly lead to a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle.
