Creative Beginnings

Spring is here and that means the tulips, jonquils, crocus and many other flowers will be blooming in their beautiful colors. It is so nice to see the brightness that the days seem to hold as we finally step into spring. Our spirits seem to rise and more smiles start to show themselves, which helps everybody’s day go by a little easier.

“For, lo! The winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.”(The Song of Solomon 2:11-12)

Every year, the students from Creighton Prep come to our community as part of the “Freshman Retreat.” The kids came in and enjoyed different activities with the Residents, and everyone in the group had a great time.

We have started the New Year with a new project. Our Residents made bookmarks for the children of Mission of Mercy. The Residents are excited to be doing other projects for the children in the next couple of months.

We have some exciting activities planned for the upcoming months. April, May and June bring many new and different activities for us to do. April, we have the Spring Party and music guest, as well as some shopping days, and the school children will be coming in. Then in May, we have a really busy month. We will be having a Mother’s Day Party. Cinco de Mayo, we will be having a special guest singer come in, shopping and the primary elections will be going on as well. Finally, in June, we will be having a Father’s Day Party, also the weather should be just about right for us to go outdoors and do different activities.

On January 28, 2010, one of our Residents, Alverna Roark, turned 105 years old! We celebrated her birthday with a surprise party. We had cake, ice cream, and “The Big Little Band” came in and played Alverna’s favorite music. She was surrounded by friends and family. After the party, Alverna stated, “I never had a party like that before in my life.”
