Questions and Answers
What types of senior living experiences are offered by Bethesda Adult Communities? Bethesda Adult Communities are dedicated to cultivating growth in all residents. While some are more active than others, all could use a little pampering from time to time from a gentle, professional "gardener" whose sole charge is to help them grow and prosper. Bethesda offers independent retirement living for those interested in an apartment, duplex or villa in a community setting. Assisted-living apartments are offered for those requiring special help with daily tasks, including rehabilitative therapies and medication. Bethesda also offers special services for those with Alzheimer's disease or other memory-related impairments.
When is assisted living appropriate? Assisted living is appropriate when a senior is having difficulty with adequate nutrition, maintaining his or her household or remembering to take medications. Bethesda Adult Communities are staffed 24 hours day with licensed nurses, medication aides and others to ensure healthy eating, a secure environment and medication management.
Why not a nursing home? A nursing home is appropriate for seniors with more acute medical requirements. Nursing homes provide more intensive medical and nursing services. Bethesda Adult Communities are designed for active seniors who need a little or moderate amount of assistance but, otherwise, desire freedom and choice.
How do Bethesda Adult Communities work with someone with dementia (or Alzheimers's disease)? Our specialized units focus on individualized programming to enhance our residents feelings of worth. Utilizing each resident's interest, daily activities are designed to allow for higher functioning and involvement of facility staff. The units have secured exits, increased staff ratios and approved monitoring devices so family can feel confident their loved one is safe.
Do Bethesda Adult Communities charge a flat fee or are there hidden costs and extra fees? Bethesda offers a variety of packages for residents living in the active retirement communities. Flat fees cover restaurant-style dining, laundry and housekeeping services. Utilities are paid except for telephone and cable bills. Residents with cars can also order carports for an extra charge.
Monthly fees for assisted-living seniors cover nursing, bathing, dressing and other personal services. All meals and utilities (except cable and telephone) are included and no extra charges are added to the bill.
