It was in 1959 when the founder of Bethesda, Rev. Charles Turner, implemented his vision to establish a nursing home business with a two-fold purpose: to provide quality Christian care for the elderly in his community and generate revenues to bring hope to those living in poverty around the world.
These homes would generate operating revenue which could be used to support Christian missionary endeavors.
This was the premise upon which Bethesda was created.
Charles put his idea into action in 1959 in Bassett, Nebraska.
He took out a loan on his car for a deposit, and borrowed funds from local ranchers along with volunteer help from his church, and built the first nursing home in Bassett.
