Who We Are
Bethesda's work began in 1959, under the name Bethesda Living Centers, with the opening of a traditional senior-care center in rural Nebraska. This facility had two purposes: providing Christian care for the elderly and sharing God's love with people around the world through various missions.
Over the next 25 years, Bethesda's operations grew to comprise 34 facilities in six states.
Bethesda's original motto - "Care With a Gentle Touch" - described the loving service Bethesda offered every day for a growing number of residents. But this growing Baby Boomer population has aged more graciously than previous generations and the notion of "care" now has more to do with hospitality than hospitals.
In 1988, Bethesda broadened its mission to serve seniors through a system of retirement communities. In addition to these adult communities, the company has launched Bethesda Outreach Ministries, Bethesda Associates, Bethesda Christian Broadcasting and Bethesda Management.
Currently hosted in six states, Bethesda Adult Communities can be likened to a gardener creating a place where residents' lives can come into full bloom. Whether in a family of independent apartments and villas, an assisted-living community or a dementia special-care unit, smiles and hugs are as plentiful as is the tradition of sharing God's love with the world.
Individuals flourish and families are strengthened in a vibrant, energizing environment of growth and life.
